The main emphasis of our three-year-old class is socialization: learning to share, getting along with friends in school, and taking turns. Our curriculum includes a daily craft, introduction to the alphabet, geometric shapes, community helpers, science including many fun hands-on experiments, farm animals, seasons, holidays, computers including over a dozen educational and fun programs, music program and cooking. We have daily painting and crayons always available as well as play dough that is made by the three-year-olds. Children bring in something that begins with the letter of the week for Show & Tell and work on a weekly letter craft.
There is a large outdoor playground with a sand box. All classrooms have dress-up and playhouse areas, kindergarten blocks and manipulatives (a variety of puzzles and construction toys).
The three-year-old classes go on two educational and fun trips:
In October we go to a local farm. We also go to the supermarket for a behind the scenes tour as part of our Community Helpers Unit.
In June we have a “Moving-Up Ceremony” for all our three-year-olds.
Children in this class need to be three years old by December 31 and should be toilet trained before school begins.
